Blessed Osanna of Cattaro, pray for us to live with faith and humility. Help us grow in our love for God through silence, service, and prayer. Amen.
BLESSED. OSANNA OF CATTARO
Bl. Osanna of Cattaro was a Dominican tertiary and mystic from Montenegro, known for her life of contemplation, penance, and spiritual insight. She lived a cloistered life of prayer and was revered for her holiness and wisdom.
Osanna was born as Jovana Kosić in 1493 in the town of Kotor (Cattaro), located in present-day Montenegro. As a child, she worked as a shepherdess and had a profound spiritual experience at a young age, leading to her deep devotion to Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
At around age 14, she became a servant in Kotor and eventually joined the Dominican Third Order. Choosing a life of reclusion and prayer, Osanna lived in a small cell near the Church of St. Bartholomew, dedicating herself to a life of penance, spiritual reading, and contemplation.
She became known in Kotor as a spiritual mother and advisor. Many people, including clergy and laypeople, sought her wisdom and counsel. She reportedly received mystical visions and had the gift of spiritual insight. Her charity and intense prayer life made her an admired figure in the city. Though she lived in silence and humility, her impact was significant.
After her death in 1565, the people of Kotor considered her a saint. Her cult grew quickly in the region, and Pope Pius XI formally beatified her in 1934. She remains one of the most beloved holy figures in Montenegro.
Blessed Osanna of Cattaro, pray for us to live with faith and humility. Help us grow in our love for God through silence, service, and prayer. Amen.
BLESSED. OSANNA OF CATTARO
