ST. ANASTASIUS OF ANTIOCH (MARTYR)

St. Anastasius of Antioch was a devoted Christian and martyr who suffered death during the early centuries of Christian persecution. Known for his unwavering faith and courage, he is honored as one of the early martyrs of the Church.

St. Anastasius of Antioch was born in or near the ancient city of Antioch, a prominent center of early Christianity located in what is now modern-day Turkey. Though details of his early life are scarce, he is remembered as a faithful follower of Christ during a time when being Christian often led to persecution and death.

Anastasius lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, under whom Christians faced some of the most brutal persecutions in history. Refusing to renounce his faith or offer sacrifices to the Roman gods, Anastasius was arrested, imprisoned, and eventually executed for his steadfast loyalty to Christianity.

His martyrdom is considered a testament to the early Church’s endurance and strength in the face of oppression. His memory has been preserved in Church tradition, especially in the Eastern rites, and his name is invoked as an example of bravery and conviction in times of trial.
