St. Eliyutherius of Turna was an early Christian bishop known for his piety, leadership, and missionary work in present-day France or Belgium, particularly in the region of Tournaisis (modern Tournai).
St. Eliyutherius of Turna lived during a time when Christianity was beginning to spread widely throughout the Roman Empire’s western provinces. He is traditionally believed to have been born in the early 4th century and to have served as one of the first bishops of the town of Turna (Tournai), in modern-day Belgium.
As bishop, Eliyutherius was a significant evangelizer, spreading the faith among the local population, many of whom were still pagan. His life was marked by dedication to the teachings of Christ, pastoral care for his people, and the establishment of Christian communities. Historical records of his life are limited, but he is credited with helping to lay the groundwork for the firm establishment of the Church in the region.
St. Eliyutherius’s relics were venerated for centuries, and he was honored locally as a saint for his role in building the early Church in northern Gaul. His cult remained strong in the Tournai area, where churches and altars were dedicated to him.
