ST. EMILIYA AND TURSILLA
St. Emiliya and St. Tursilla were noble Roman virgins known for their holiness and dedication to prayer. They lived in the early centuries of the Church and were part of a family deeply rooted in Christian tradition.
St. Tursilla and St. Emiliya were members of a devout Christian family in Rome. According to tradition, they were aunts of Pope St. Gregory the Great, one of the greatest Doctors of the Church. These women were raised in a family that prized virtue, service, and prayer.
St. Tursilla was especially known for her life of deep asceticism and prayer. She led a life of solitude, devoting herself to the service of God. According to legend, she had a vision of her death and was comforted by a vision of Jesus Christ inviting her to eternal glory. She passed away peacefully on December 24, around the year 581.
St. Emiliya, though less documented, is believed to have followed a similarly holy path and lived a life of Christian virtue and chastity. She supported and shared in her sister Tursilla’s dedication to a life of holiness.
Though specific historical details about St. Emiliya are limited, both are honored for their influence on the early Church and their connection to a lineage of saints, including Pope St. Gregory.
St. Emiliya and St. Tursilla, help us to live lives of holiness, love, and service to God. May your examples of faith and devotion inspire us to follow Christ with courage and compassion. Amen.
