"Saint Galdin, humble servant of God, Guide us with your wisdom and grace. Help us to live with faith, And lead us on the path of peace and love. Intercede for us in our needs, And bring us closer to the Divine. Amen."
ST. GALDIN
St. Galdinus was a Cardinal and Archbishop of Milan, known for his strong defense of the Church against heresy. He suffered greatly during the political and religious struggles of his time, yet remained faithful to the papacy and the Catholic doctrine. He died while preaching a sermon in defense of the faith. His feast day is April 18.
St. Galdinus was born around 1096 in Milan, Italy, into a noble family. He became a priest and later rose to prominence in the Church as the Archdeacon of Milan. During the conflict between the Lombard cities and the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, Galdinus strongly supported the Pope and opposed imperial interference in Church matters.
In 1165, after years of exile due to the Emperor's persecution, Galdinus was appointed Archbishop of Milan by Pope Alexander III. His time as Archbishop was marked by persecution, famine, and war, but he worked tirelessly to restore the faith and rebuild the city after years of destruction.
A major focus of his work was combatting the heresy of the Cathars, who denied the authority of the Church. His devotion to defending Catholic teachings was so intense that he collapsed and died while preaching against heresy on April 18, 1176. His death was seen as an act of ultimate sacrifice for his faith.
His memory has been venerated by the faithful ever since, and he is honored as a holy bishop, confessor, and defender of the Church. His tomb is in Milan Cathedral, where he remains a revered figure.
"Saint Galdin, humble servant of God, Guide us with your wisdom and grace. Help us to live with faith, And lead us on the path of peace and love. Intercede for us in our needs, And bring us closer to the Divine. Amen."
