ST. JOAN OF ARC

ST. JOAN OF ARC

St. Joan of Arc, a young French peasant, became a national heroine for her role in leading French troops to victory during the Hundred Years' War. She was martyred for her faith and later canonized as a saint.

St. Joan of Arc, born in 1412 in Domrémy, France, is one of the most famous saints in history. As a young girl, she claimed to have received visions from saints instructing her to support Charles VII, the Dauphin of France, and help him reclaim the French throne during the Hundred Years' War. At just 17 years old, Joan convinced Charles VII to allow her to lead an army, where she achieved several victories against the English.

Her faith, courage, and leadership on the battlefield made her a symbol of resistance and a national hero of France. However, she was captured by the English and tried for charges of heresy and witchcraft. Despite her unwavering commitment to her beliefs, she was condemned to death and burned at the stake in 1431 at the age of 19.

Joan's canonization process began long after her death, with the Church officially recognizing her as a martyr and saint in 1920, nearly 500 years after her execution. She is remembered as a symbol of purity, courage, and faith, as well as a patron saint of France.

St. Joan of Arc’s legacy continues to inspire people around the world, particularly for her role in fighting for justice and her unwavering trust in divine guidance.
