ST. JOHN OF KANTI
St. John of Kęty was a Polish priest, theologian, and professor known for his humility, charity, and commitment to academic and spiritual excellence.
St. John of Kęty was born on June 23, 1390, in the village of Kęty, in the Kingdom of Poland (modern-day Poland). From an early age, he showed a deep interest in learning and spiritual life. He studied philosophy and theology at the renowned Jagiellonian University in Kraków, eventually becoming a professor of theology.
John was known not only for his intellect but also for his holiness. He lived a life of great austerity, choosing to live simply and share whatever he had with the poor. Despite his academic responsibilities, he devoted himself to prayer, fasting, and acts of charity. He went on pilgrimages to Rome and the Holy Land, often walking long distances as a form of penance and devotion.
Throughout his life, he was a tireless advocate of humility, compassion, and honesty. His students and colleagues were inspired by his example, and his influence extended beyond the classroom into the spiritual renewal of Kraków.
He passed away on December 24, 1473. He was beatified in 1680 and canonized in 1767. Today, he is regarded as a patron of students, teachers, and academics.
St. John of Kanti, help us to live with humility, wisdom, and dedication to God. Inspire us to follow your example of love for God and service to others, and grant us the strength to remain faithful in all things. Amen.
