ST. JUVENAL (BISHOP)
Saint Juvenal of Jerusalem served as the bishop of Jerusalem from 422 until his death in 458. He played a significant role in the ecclesiastical history of the region, particularly during the Council of Chalcedon in 451, which recognized Jerusalem as a patriarchate, elevating its status within the Church. Juvenal is also known for his support of monasticism and his efforts to promote the veneration of the Virgin Mary, including the introduction of the Feast of the Theotokos on August 15. His feast day is celebrated on July 2nd in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
Saint Juvenal of Jerusalem was appointed as the bishop of Jerusalem in 422. At that time, Jerusalem was under the jurisdiction of the bishop of Caesarea. Juvenal sought to elevate the status of Jerusalem within the Church.
