Her father, who was not Christian, pleaded with her to renounce her faith to avoid execution, but Perpetua refused, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to Christ.

St. Felicity, her companion in martyrdom, was a pregnant slave who was also arrested for being a Christian. Felicity’s situation was particularly harsh because she was due to give birth, and her pregnancy made her trial even more complicated. Despite this, she gave birth to a daughter while in prison and was able to return to her faith despite the challenges she faced as a slave. Both women endured brutal conditions in prison but continued to support each other and remain resolute in their belief.

The two women were condemned to death in the arena. They were martyred on the same day in 203 AD, as part of a public execution. According to the "Passion of Perpetua and Felicity," an early Christian text that records their story, Perpetua was thrown into the arena, where she faced a wild animal. Felicity, who had given birth, was also martyred alongside her. The account of their deaths is famous for its vivid portrayal of their strength in the face of fear and their refusal to abandon their faith, no matter the cost.

Their story became one of the most famous and enduring narratives of early Christian martyrdom. The "Passion of Perpetua and Felicity" provides a detailed account of their trials and is a powerful testimony to the resolve of early Christians who were persecuted for their beliefs.
