St. Peter Faurier was a French priest known for founding the Congregation of Notre-Dame, devoted to the free education of girls. He was a man of great holiness and charity, remembered for his deep prayer life and tireless pastoral care.
Saint Peter Faurier was born in 1565 in Mirecourt, Lorraine, France. He joined the Canons Regular of St. Augustine and was ordained a priest. His life was rooted in a commitment to reform the clergy and educate the poor.
In 1597, he became the parish priest of Mattaincourt, where he was loved for his gentle nature, practical wisdom, and untiring service. Alongside Blessed Alix Le Clerc, he co-founded the Congregation of Notre-Dame, a religious order dedicated to the Christian education of young girls, which was a revolutionary focus in his time.
St. Peter was also deeply committed to the spiritual growth of his parishioners. He organized missions, improved catechesis, and encouraged a rich liturgical life. Known for his mystical insights and humility, he became a model of priestly virtue. He died on December 9, 1640, leaving behind a powerful legacy of educational reform and spiritual renewal.
