ST. ROSE OF VITERBO (INCORRUPT BODY)

St. Rose of Viterbo was an Italian mystic and preacher who lived a short but impactful life. From an early age, she performed miracles, spoke out against injustice, and urged people to repentance. She was expelled from her city for opposing a corrupt ruler but remained steadfast in her faith. She died at the age of 18, and her body was found incorrupt years later, a sign of her sanctity.

St. Rose of Viterbo was born in 1233 in Viterbo, Italy, to a humble and devout family. From a young age, she exhibited extraordinary holiness and a deep love for God. At just three years old, she reportedly revived an aunt by her prayers, signaling her divine calling.

At the age of seven, she began to practice extreme fasting and self-denial. She frequently preached repentance in the streets, urging people to live a life devoted to Christ. Her prophetic voice gained attention, and she soon became known as a young but powerful preacher in Viterbo.

During this period, the ruling forces of Emperor Frederick II clashed with Pope Innocent IV. Rose, despite being only a teenager, strongly opposed the emperor's control and openly supported the Pope. Her fearless stance led to her exile from Viterbo when she was only 13 years old. She and her family were forced to flee, but she remained steadfast in her faith and continued to preach wherever she went.

In 1251, she returned to Viterbo after the emperor's forces were defeated. She sought to join the Poor Clares, a Franciscan order, but was denied due to her lack of dowry. She accepted this as God's will and continued her life of prayer and penance at home. She died shortly after, in 1252, at just 18 years old.

Years after her death, her body was exhumed and found to be incorrupt, meaning it had not decayed, a sign of great holiness. Today, her body remains miraculously preserved in the Monastery of St. Rose in Viterbo, where it is venerated by thousands of pilgrims.
