Blessed Ambrose LeBlanc, brave martyr of the Church, pray for us to remain faithful in times of trial and to love God above all else. Amen.
BLESSED. AMBROSE LEBLANC
Blessed Ambrose LeBlanc was a French Benedictine monk and martyr who was executed during the French Revolution for his steadfast faith. He is one of the 191 Martyrs of the September Massacres.
Blessed Ambrose LeBlanc was a Benedictine monk of the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, France. He lived in a time of great religious upheaval during the French Revolution, when many members of the clergy were persecuted for their loyalty to the Catholic Church and their refusal to submit to the state's Civil Constitution of the Clergy.
As a devout religious, Ambrose remained faithful to his vows and to the Pope, refusing to take the oath imposed by the revolutionary authorities. This act of conscience and courage led to his imprisonment in the Carmelite Convent in Paris, which had been converted into a makeshift prison for clergy who resisted the revolutionary government.
On September 2, 1792, Ambrose LeBlanc was among over 100 priests and religious who were brutally massacred by revolutionary mobs in what is now known as the September Massacres. Their deaths were motivated by hatred of the faith, and Ambrose died praying and professing his belief in God.
He was beatified by Pope Pius XI in 1926 along with other victims of the September Massacres, recognized as martyrs who gave their lives for Christ in defense of the Catholic faith.
Blessed Ambrose LeBlanc, brave martyr of the Church, pray for us to remain faithful in times of trial and to love God above all else. Amen.
BLESSED. AMBROSE LEBLANC
