BLESSED. MARIE CELINE OF THE PRESENTATION

BLESSED. MARIE CELINE OF THE PRESENTATION

Bl. Marie Celine of the Presentation was a French nun who joined the Sisters of the Holy Family and is remembered for her deep spirituality, compassion, and dedication to the service of the poor.

Blessed Marie Celine of the Presentation was born as Marie-Célestine Roussel in the small village of Grandvilliers, France, in 1817. Growing up in a devout Catholic family, Marie felt a strong calling to religious life from a young age. She joined the Sisters of the Holy Family, a congregation founded by Fr. Louis de la Salle, which focused on education and serving the poor.

Upon entering the convent, Marie took the religious name "Sister Marie Celine of the Presentation." She quickly became known for her deep spiritual life and her commitment to the poor and suffering. As a nun, she devoted herself to caring for orphans and the sick, serving the community with humility, charity, and dedication.

In 1843, she was appointed to a mission in La Roche-sur-Yon, where she was responsible for overseeing the education of young girls. Sister Marie Celine's gentle yet firm demeanor, combined with her compassion, helped foster a strong sense of faith and love in the hearts of the children under her care.

Marie Celine's health began to deteriorate due to her rigorous duties and dedication, and she died in 1846 at the young age of 29. Her death was a great loss to her community, but her legacy of selfless service and deep spirituality continued to inspire those who knew her.

In 1994, she was beatified by Pope John Paul II for her virtuous life and unwavering commitment to the service of others, particularly the poor and orphaned.
