Blessed Pina Suriano, help us to live with pure hearts and passionate love for Jesus. Teach us to offer our daily lives as prayer and service. Amen.
BLESSED. PINA SURIANO
Bl. Pina Suriano was an Italian laywoman devoted to the Catholic Action movement. Known for her deep spirituality, personal purity, and love for Christ, she offered her life in prayer and service without entering a religious order.
Giacomina “Pina” Suriano was born on February 18, 1915, in Partinico, a town in the province of Palermo, Sicily, Italy. From a young age, she displayed a strong religious inclination, attending daily Mass, engaging in frequent prayer, and expressing a desire to dedicate her entire life to God.
She became actively involved in Catholic Action, an Italian lay movement focused on promoting Christian values in society. Pina was eventually elected president of the youth branch in her local chapter, where she emphasized prayer, spiritual formation, and outreach to others. Her leadership was marked by a loving yet serious spirit, guiding young people toward Christ.
Although she wanted to become a nun, her fragile health and familial responsibilities kept her from joining religious life. Instead, she took a private vow of virginity and lived her vocation as a lay consecrated woman, offering her life in sacrifice and spiritual union with Jesus.
Pina died suddenly at the age of 35 from a heart attack on May 19, 1950. Her cause for canonization began soon after, and she was declared Blessed by Pope John Paul II in 2004. Her life is a testament to holiness through lay dedication and the transformative power of personal piety.
Blessed Pina Suriano, help us to live with pure hearts and passionate love for Jesus. Teach us to offer our daily lives as prayer and service. Amen.
BLESSED. PINA SURIANO
