BLESSED. SAVINA PETRILLI
Bl. Savina Petrilli was an Italian religious foundress who dedicated her life to serving the poor and the sick. She founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Poor of St. Catherine of Siena and is remembered for her humility, charity, and unwavering trust in Divine Providence.
Born in Siena, Italy, on August 29, 1851, Savina Petrilli was deeply influenced by the example of St. Catherine of Siena, whose life of service and spiritual fervor captivated her heart from a young age. She experienced a strong call to dedicate her life to God and the service of the poor.
At the age of fifteen, she joined the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary and soon became its president in Siena. In 1869, with the blessing of Pope Pius IX, Savina founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Poor of St. Catherine of Siena, dedicated to helping the sick, the poor, and abandoned children.
Her community quickly grew, spreading to other cities in Italy and even internationally. Savina emphasized trust in Divine Providence and instructed her sisters to live in simplicity and humility. She encouraged a deep prayer life and personally remained dedicated to Eucharistic adoration.
Despite facing many challenges, including financial difficulties and personal health issues, Savina remained firm in her mission and her reliance on God. She passed away in Siena on April 18, 1923, and her reputation for holiness continued to grow after her death.
Blessed Savina Petrilli, teach us to serve the poor with love and humility. May we follow your example of trust in God's providence and bring hope to the suffering. Amen.
BLESSED. SAVINA PETRILLI
