Blessed Stephana de Quinzanis was born on February 5, 1457, in Brescia, Italy, to Lorenzo de Quinzanis and his wife, who were a poor and pious couple. Her father became a member of the Third Order of St. Dominic while Stephana was very young. At the age of seven, she began receiving visions of Dominican saints and made personal vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. In 1464, Christ appeared to her, accompanied by the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saints Dominic, Thomas Aquinas, and Catherine of Siena, presenting her with a wedding ring, signifying her mystical marriage. Blessed Matthew Carrieri, a stigmatist friar, became her spiritual guide and predicted that she would bear the stigmata, which she received at age 14 after his death. She joined the Dominican Third Order at 15 and later founded a convent in Soncino, Italy, where she served as prioress. She was known for her deep devotion to the Passion of Christ, receiving the stigmata, and enduring spiritual aridity and temptations. Her life was marked by intense prayer, fasting, and service to the poor. She died on January 2, 1530, and was beatified by Pope Benedict XIV on December 14, 1740.
