ST. ADRIAN AND EUBULUS

ST. ADRIAN AND EUBULUS

Saints Adrian and Eubulus were early Christian martyrs who suffered persecution in Caesarea around the year 309. They are remembered for their courage and firm witness to Christ during violent trials.

Saints Adrian and Eubulus lived during the time of great persecution under the Roman Emperor Diocletian. They arrived together in Caesarea, located in present-day Palestine, with the intention of assisting and encouraging imprisoned Christians. Upon arrival, they were immediately identified as believers and taken into custody.

Adrian was the first to be interrogated and condemned. Despite threats and the promise of mercy if he renounced his faith, he boldly professed his belief in Christ. He was subjected to brutal torture and thrown to wild beasts in the arena. Adrian died on March 4, offering his suffering in witness to his Savior.

Eubulus, who had traveled with Adrian, was also brought before the authorities two days later. Like Adrian, he refused to deny his faith. He too was tortured and thrown to the beasts in the public arena. He was killed on March 5, just two days after his companion. Together, their martyrdom became a lasting testimony to the faith, loyalty, and courage of early Christians during a time of violent oppression.

Their joint sacrifice is remembered as a powerful example of friendship in faith and shared devotion to Christ. Though little else is recorded about their lives before their martyrdom, their names are honored in the Church for their heroic stand in the face of death.
