Saint Amata of Assisi was the niece of Saint Clare of Assisi, who entered the Poor Clares after experiencing a miraculous healing through Clare's intercession. Saint Amata of Assisi, born around 1200, was the niece of Saint Clare of Assisi and one of her first followers in the early days of the Poor Clare movement. This miraculous healing inspired Amata to join the Poor Clare monastery at San Damiano. After Saint Clare's canonization in 1255, Saint Amata continued her life of devotion until her death in 1250. She was buried in Assisi, alongside her sister, Saint Balbina, another early follower of Clare. Though much of her life remains unrecorded, the legacy of her devotion to God, her religious community, and her witness to the sanctity of her aunt, Saint Clare, continues to inspire the faithful today.
