ST. FREDERICK OF GHYVELDE
St. Frederick of Ghyvelde was a humble priest known for his pastoral charity, simplicity, and deep devotion to the poor in the region of Ghyvelde in northern France.
St. Frederick of Ghyvelde lived during the 11th and 12th centuries in what is now northern France, near the border of Belgium. He was born into a devout Christian family, and from a young age, he showed a deep sense of compassion for the poor and marginalized. Drawn to the service of God, Frederick became a priest and settled in Ghyvelde, a small village in the region of Flanders.
As a parish priest, he was known for his deep humility and generosity. He lived a life of personal austerity, giving whatever he had to those in need. He often visited the sick, comforted the grieving, and provided for the poor from his own modest means. His reputation as a holy man and compassionate pastor spread beyond his village.
Frederick also had a strong devotion to the Eucharist and to the Virgin Mary. He frequently spent long hours in prayer, and his presence brought peace and encouragement to many who struggled. Despite living in a time of political unrest and occasional violence, he remained steadfast in his pastoral duties.
After his death around the year 1121, many miracles were attributed to his intercession, and devotion to him grew, especially among the people of Flanders. He is considered a local saint, venerated particularly in Ghyvelde and surrounding areas.
