ST. IMELDA

St. Imelda Lambertini is a young Italian saint who is known for her deep devotion to the Eucharist. She died at the age of 11 after receiving her First Holy Communion, and she is the patron saint of First Communicants.

St. Imelda Lambertini was born in Bologna, Italy, to a noble family. From a young age, she showed a deep devotion to the Catholic faith and an intense love for the Eucharist. Her parents, impressed by her piety, allowed her to join the Dominican nuns at the convent of St. Mary Magdalene in Bologna when she was just a child. Imelda’s desire for the Eucharist was so great that she begged the nuns to allow her to receive her First Holy Communion, despite her young age.

According to tradition, on May 12, 1333, when Imelda was only 11 years old, she was finally granted permission to receive the Eucharist. After receiving the Blessed Sacrament, Imelda is said to have fallen into a rapture and died the following day, May 13, with a serene expression on her face. Her body was found in a state of purity, and the Eucharistic Host was miraculously still visible on her tongue, a sign of her holy devotion.

St. Imelda’s short life is a beautiful testament to the power of the Eucharist and the purity of heart that she possessed. She was canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1900, and her feast day is celebrated on May 13. She is considered the patron saint of First Communicants, and her story continues to inspire young children and adults alike to approach the Eucharist with reverence and devotion.
