ST. TERESA MARGARET REDI

ST. TERESA MARGARET REDI

St. Teresa Margaret Redi was a Discalced Carmelite nun renowned for her hidden life of humility, love, and deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

St. Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart, born Anna Maria Redi on July 15, 1747, in Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy, was the daughter of a noble family. From her earliest years, she displayed a profound inclination toward prayer, simplicity, and a deep love for God. She was educated by the Benedictine nuns of Florence, where her interior life blossomed quietly and deeply.

At the age of seventeen, feeling a divine call, Anna Maria entered the Discalced Carmelite convent in Florence, taking the name Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart. Her religious life was characterized by an extraordinary fidelity to the Rule of Carmel, intense humility, and a tender, silent charity. She lived a hidden life, unnoticed by many around her, but her spiritual stature was immense.

Teresa Margaret devoted herself entirely to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, striving to imitate His humility and love, especially through serving the sick and infirm nuns in her community. She sought to live in perfect union with God in every moment, offering her daily tasks and sufferings with pure love.

In early 1770, Teresa Margaret fell seriously ill with an unknown and agonizing sickness. Despite her intense suffering, she remained peaceful and united to God, offering everything for love of Him. She died on March 7, 1770, at the young age of twenty-two. Immediately after her death, a radiant beauty returned to her body, and a sweet fragrance filled the convent, signs that confirmed her sanctity to her fellow sisters.

St. Teresa Margaret was beatified in 1929 and canonized by Pope Pius XI on March 19, 1934. Today, she is remembered as a model of hidden holiness, showing that true greatness lies in humility, charity, and complete union with the Heart of Christ.
